Where Is Natural Gas Found
Natural gas is a product of centuries of decay of dead and decomposed plants and animals without the presence of oxygen. This organic matter is found deep under the earth where it was buried millions of years ago. Natural gas deposits are found in areas known as natural gas fields. |

Some countries rich in natural gas source are Iran and Qatar. These two countries share the largest natural gas field, which is South Pars or Asalouyeh field. Russia has the distinction of owning the second largest in Novy Urengoy.
Countries like Algeria, Azerbaijan, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, United States and Venezuela also boast of still active natural gas fields. Scientists have declared 27 regions across the world as rich in natural gas resources. Maximum amount of this natural resource is mainly concentrated in the Persian Gulf and Western Siberian Basin. Due to technical and environmental problems, Antarctica and Arctic continents haven’t been explored much. Nonetheless, they are also believed to be rich in natural gas.
Natural Gas is also found in off shore regions like the Corrib Gas Field off the shore of Ireland, North Sea and Scotian Shelf near Sable Island. But because of inadequate technology and the cost involved, transport of natural gas from these regions is difficult. However, giant companies with interest in natural gas field are thinking ways to overcome this problem especially because of the ever-rising oil prices.
