How Natural Gas Works

Natural gas has already emerged as a very popular alternative to crude oil for running cars. It is a clean and efficient fuel especially today when we have become environmental conscious.

Similar to the formation of oil, natural gas is also formed of decomposed organic material.  Dead plants and animals were trapped in bogs and water. For centuries, there decay happened in the absence of oxygen. Sedimentary layers covered them and they converted to gas and oil products.

The process of gas and oil conversion is similar. But natural gas unlike oil is not very expensively priced thus being available to all. And today it is fast coming up as a choice to run combined-cycle gas turbines and fuel cells. So advanced electrical technology will use natural gas for operating. Many companies have already started utilizing natural gas to create electricity. Combined cycle turbines are normally used to efficiently utilize gas to generate electricity.

Because it is cost efficient, natural gas is now being used by many as fuel in vehicles. It has a combustible nature much like the normal fuel. Hence it can be used in engines. The engine is powered to burn natural gas thus generating energy for the vehicle to operate.

Though many agree that natural gas is the fuel of the future yet it remains greatly under-utilized. This is mainly because its transportation and storage is not very easy. These are the big issues that still need to be taken care of.
