Health Effects Of Biodiesel
Biodiesel is increasingly being viewed as an alternative to diesel and other quickly exhausting fuels. It is commercially viable and more and more people now prefer it over other fuels because it is easily prepared; even in the privacy of your home. |

One advantage often cited while discussing the positives of biodiesel is its non-toxicity. Since it is biodegradable, environmentalists feel that the fuel does not pose much danger to the environment or to human health. However, this is something that bio-scientists have not yet given their opinion on. The reason is that very few studies have been done to show the risks that biodiesel possesses. There is very limited data available on biodiesel and its biological impacts.
Using biodiesel as an alternative fuel has been vetoed by many nations. This is mainly because of the belief that the exhaust emissions from it are less likely to cause harm to human health or the environment. This make sit stand out when compared to health problems likely to occur from petrol or diesel. Studies have proved that biodiesel emissions contain less of particulate matter, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons or carbon monoxide. Also, there is no sulphur compound found in the emission. Though, one cause of worry is the release of nitrogen oxide from biodiesel exhaust. But this is mainly because biodiesel is being used in diesel engines. Nitrogen oxide is toxic in nature and poses a potential health threat. It also has been identified as precursor to ozone. However, we are still not sure what are the other risk factors involved in using biodiesel. More research needs to be conducted on this so that we are 100% sure of biodiesel as the fuel for future. In the meantime, we’ll have to keep looking for other alternatives as well.
