Diesel-Versus-Gas-Engine-Costs      If time is taken out to study diesel and the gas engines, superiority of the former over the latter becomes obvious. An observant and interested customer/driver will understand at once that the diesel engine offers better fuel economy, low maintenance cost and added torque. These are the advantages that are likely to make him decide to choose diesel engine over a gasoline one.  More..

Biodiesel Process Safety Management

Biodiesel is non-petroleum diesel fuel. It is produced by the process of transesterfication. This is the exchange of alkoxy group of an ester compound with an alcohol group.  It comprises of short chains of alkyl ester. Biodiesel is fast emerging as an alternative to fuel that is normally used in diesel vehicles.

Is biodiesel safe?

Biodiesel is very safe. After all, it is a combination of cooking oils and alcohol! So don’t worry even if you have spilled some. It will soon turn into harmless organic waste. Drinking it is not a good idea even though it is non-toxic in nature. Mechanics dealing with biodiesel are less likely to end up with cracked and dry skin than those handling diesel and petrol. Since it is biodegradable, bacteria present in the environment will decompose it naturally. Many people even prepare it at home.

Biodiesel burns only at a temperature of more than 250F. So don’t worry about it suddenly bursting into flames. It seems to be the least harmful, yet it is a good idea to wear safety glasses when handling it. Safety glasses can help avoid any form of contact with the eyes. But if some untoward incident does occur, immediately wash that area with water and soap. In case no relief is felt, and the area experiences irritation or a burning sensation, take medical help. If someone mistakenly swallows, little harm is done. However, if large amount has been consumed, consult a doctor, pronto!

Disposing biodiesel is relatively safe because of its biodegradable nature. It can also be stored as liquid waste and disposed eventually.
