Solar Energy Statistics
Nearly 9.7 tons of oil is consumed globally everyday. This number is changing very fast as the consumption rate is increasing every single day. So fossil fuels are the number one source of consumption of energy available today. However, a notable trend is being observed in the global markets where there is a decrease in oil consumption and increase in natural gas consumption. There has been a 3 percent increase in the natural gas consumption. Oil, however, continues to hold the top place in consumption. |

The statistics of solar power consumption helps us understand the growth of the solar power industry. Also, it helps us understand how the global energy sources are being consumed. In competition with solar energy there are also wind energy and thermal energy. Solar energy costs could go down if there is a wider market for it. However, to confirm this trend, one needs to have accurate solar energy statistics on a worldwide basis.
The government of the United States is collecting data on solar energy consumption through independent consultants. There are programs like Solar Buzz which record historic data of the consumption of solar energy. Solar energy has a 2.3 percent of market share in consumption which is actually a gradual increase.
Solar electric fixtures nearly reached 200 MW in 1999. Some of the biggest markets for solar energy are the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom. Even Spain is reaching historical data for increased usage.
Today, one can comfortably say that solar energy usage is around 0.1 percent for the entire world. This figure is expected to increase gradually.
