Disadvantage Of Nuclear Fusion
Nuclear fusion is the process where nuclei of two or more atoms are fused or joined. This requires conditions of extreme temperatures in order to release energy. Nuclear fusion of helium is what takes place in the sun’s atmosphere, thereby releasing energy to the earth. |

Disadvantages of nuclear fusion
- Under controlled conditions, nuclear fusion has not been able to sustain for long enough. Hence there isn’t significant energy gain.
- Though nuclear fusion does not release any toxic gases, yet it produces waste that is radioactive in nature. Radioactive particles pose health threats to all living organisms.
- There is still no suitable method to dispose of the radioactive waste arising from nuclear fusion.
- Scientists are still looking for controlled and sustainable ways to carry out nuclear fusion tests.
- Many nations have already given up on nuclear fusion experiments because no milestones have been reached yet.
- There are a few nations are no longer carrying out researches on nuclear fusion. In the event of a likely breakthrough, these nations will then have to be dependent on others for nuclear energy.
- The energy generated from nuclear fusion would be cheap. In order to find the way to produce this energy, we have already utilized the precious energy of fossil fuels in large amounts. But haven’t been able to achieve any positive results.
- If proper precautions aren’t carried out, it can result in radioactive explosions that cause serious health threats to life on earth.
- Nuclear fusion is the perfect answer to our energy crisis-but only in theory. Its practical application still needs to be performed.
