Functions-Of-Fuel-Additives-As-Vaporizers      There are many companies that are working on increasing the fuel efficiency of both gasoline and diesel based engines. This is being done by using fuel additives that will help decrease emission of toxic gases. These additives will also boost the performance of the engine. More..

Diesel Fuel Additive Comparison

Diesel engine is fast becoming the people’s choice because of the improved technology that offers better performance and fuel efficiency. The emissions have gone down considerably. Besides, the lower cost of diesel engine over the gasoline one, is an incentive.

Carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide emissions have greatly been lowered. However, the release of nitrogen oxide is a concern. NO is a toxic gas and raises health concerns. Hence more study is required to in order bring down the emission levels of NO from a diesel run vehicle. One methodology to achieve this would be addition of chemical compounds in to the fuel.

A variety of additives can be mixed in to diesel to reduce nitrogen monoxide emissions. These additives act as metal catalysts. Organomettalic metals like lithium, lead, magnesium, sodium, cadmium, zinc, silicon, tin, germanium, boron and antimony can be added in a mix or individually to the fuel. But the cost of these metallic compounds is to high. And the quantity in which they are required to be used as additives, makes their price too much of money to pay. An alternate element that can be used is platinum. When the insides of the diesel engine are coated with it, it results in the lowering of nitrogen emission. However, this isn’t a very effective application because the platinum coat tends to wear off within a matter of few hours.

Platinum and its various metallic solutions have been identified as the best to increase diesel fuel efficiency by lowering the gas emissions. But compounds that are available in the market contain halogen and phosphorous. These gaseous elements aren’t feasible for use in fuels. A preferred mix would be one with no or less phosphorus to nullify its negative effects on the engine. The god news is that few compounds like benzene, cyclic dienes, olefins and acetylenes can be used as efficient additives.
