Our dependence on fossil fuels has been so great that in our enthusiasm to make the most of them, we have neglected to see their side effects. Some of the concerns that use of these fuels have raised today are:
- Global warming: By making abundant use of gasoline and diesel in the vehicles we have released huge amounts of carbon dioxide in to the earth’s atmosphere. This gas has absorbed the escaping heat and led to global warming. The temperature of the earth has risen. This can cause serious environmental issues in a few years from now.
- Energy crisis: Increased use of fossil fuels has resulted in their lesser availability in the market. Our demand is not in sync with their production. It takes millions of years for the fossil fuels to be formed and we have over used them in a matter of a few years. There is no point in blaming national policies or political wars. We are to be blamed.
- Inflation rates: Inflation has gone up in leaps and bounds. This is true for every country. Fast diminishing resources of fossil fuels has led to their price rise. Everyday the cost of gasoline is going up. For a middle class family, this is upsetting news. Unless the prices are controlled, sustenance will become a problem.
- Neglect of alternative fuels: Even in the face of energy crisis, we are still managing to flay our hands on fossil fuel products for our use. As a result of which, alternative fuels that can also be good source of energy, aren’t getting the attention they deserve. When we start using them, only then will we realize their shortcomings and try working on them.
It has become very important that we let go our reliance on fossil fuels especially in the face of all doubts and concerns that their usage raises.
