What Is Fossil Fuel ?
Fossil fuels are substances like crude oil, coal and natural gas. They are formed over million years of process deep under the earth. It is a continuous process, and an environmental cycle which facilitates the formation of fossil fuels. The fossil fuels that are being extracted today have been formed out of decay of dead prehistoric vegetation and animals, and microorganisms. The decaying materials seep under the earth and become these various types of fossil fuels. |

Even now fossil fuel is forming as we speak, but not at the rate in which they formed during historic times. There is not much vegetation left due to severe deforestation. Deforestation has not only led to global warming, but also lack of fossil fuels. We may not face the lack of it now, but our future generations to come will definitely face the shortage of nonrenewable sources of energy.
Fossil fuels like coal are used to produce electricity in bulk. By burning coal, one can meet the world's increasing demand for electricity. By burning coal, it releases a chemical energy that can be used to produce electricity. Crude oil is another fossil fuel that can be refined into gasoline, petrol and diesel. We need these oils for transportation of all kinds of vehicles. Natural gas can also be used for transportation, but it not as widely used as oil.
Oil and gases are found below the earth’s surface also, and they do not come into the environment above easily. That is why people dig and mine to obtain them.
