Advantages And Disadvantages Ethanol Fuel
Ethanol is produced naturally, and it is connected with agriculture. There are many advantages of using ethanol fuel. People think that one of the biggest advantage that ethanol could bring is reduce our dependency on foreign oil companies and depend more on local agriculturists. Ethanol on the whole when compared to oil does not have several advantages, but it does when it comes to the environment and the economy.
The advantage with ethanol is that it is an organic compound. It can be made through sugar cane and mixing it with alcohol spirits. The production rate of ethanol can be very high and the costs are low. However, the production cycle takes the longest period of time, and it is highly dependant on natural environment. If the crops fail, it could cause a lot of disadvantages in terms of shortage.
For mass consumption, ethanol is not suited very well because it requires a large amount of land and the production has to happen in bulk. If there has been a tornado or a cyclone, it could cause the crops to fail or to get destroyed, and it causes severe shortage.
Storage of ethanol is another major disadvantage. However, the real time performance of the compound has not been measured yet and it may not be as productive as oil.
Today, vehicles that are capable of using alterative fuel like ethanol use a combination of ethanol and gasoline. The biggest advantage of ethanol is that the emissions are very low compared to gasoline or petrol, and it can be very cost effective at the same time.
