Lng Versus Cng
There are two kinds of alternative fuel options. Compressed natural gas and liquefied natural gas. They are commonly known as CNG and LPG respectively. Both are derivatives of natural gas, and they contain a mixture of methane, butane and some chemicals as additives. People mainly opt for these choices so that they can save money instead of spending too much on petrol. Both CNG and LPG are compressed in cylinders and used. Some vehicles also run on dual fuel systems where they have an option to convert to petrol at any time from CNG or LPG. The switch located on the dashboard usually enables the conversion.
CNG and LPG cannot be used together for the same vehicle. The main reason being CNG uses a higher compression than LPG, and also needs bigger cylinders. There are several gas stations which provide both CNG and LPG.
When it comes to performance and mileage, both the gases are equally effective. However, several people who have noted the differences think that CNG gives a better performance ratio. Cost wise they both are the same. LPG, however, tends to get used up faster. LPG needs less space in the vehicle, but CNG cylinders being much bigger tend to occupy a larger place. Usually these installations are made to the boot of the vehicle. So CNG may end up using much more space than a normal LPG cylinder.
