Soybean Oil Biofuel Price
Soybean oil is being used to produce biofuel. It is the most common source of raw material for producing biodiesel. This is one of the reasons it is grown abundantly in the US. Soybean oil is preferred to be used as a blend of diesel because of better performance associated with this mixture. However, the cost involved in the production of biodiesel using soybean is high. Therefore, this fuel is not available in plenty in the market. |

Biodiesel plants are being constructed in a big way all over the world, especially America. There are plenty of resources available to produce biodiesel from; Americans tend to use soybean as the main raw material in the production of biodiesel. This has resulted in increase of soybean prices. Consequently, cost of biodiesel has also gone up, making biodiesel users re-think their options. The agriculturalists agree that the price of soybean should not be more than 34 cents per pound. Only then can the biodiesel industry make profits. At their current rate, soybeans are too expensive a raw material. This means that other vegetable oils need to be considered for making biodiesel.
More than 70% of soybean oil is used today in the production of fuel. The year 2007 saw soybean produce of 202.54 million pounds as compared to 96.28 million pounds in 2006. By the month’s end, the expected price of soybean is going to be around 38 cents per pound. At this high a price, biodiesel industry can hardly boast of selling cost effective fuel. Market speculators claim that the price of soybean is highly unlikely to come down. Use of other vegetable oil or oils is the demand of the times. This oil has to have the right properties to convert into oil. Also, it should be reasonably priced and available in plenty.
There is a lot of demand for biodiesel. After the soybean price crisis, we need to look for oil that will be able to meet this ever growing need. But without making us pay through our nose!
