Benzene is used widely in industrial applications and in the production of plastic, oil, rubber, resins, oil and synthetic materials. Benzene was invented by an English chemist called Michael Faraday in 1825. Benzene is present naturally in the air when there are forest fires causing the fossil fuels to burn and also through volcanic eruptions. Benzene is a byproduct of petroleum and gasoline.

However, benzene and its residual effects on the environment are considered hazardous. Severe exposure to benzene causes death and convulsions. Consistent exposure to benzene could cause long term illnesses like cancer. People may start experiencing headaches, dizziness and nausea and vomiting when they are exposed to benzene.
