Solar Energy System
Solar energy is a renewable form of energy and is available in abundance. It is taken directly from the sun for use. Solar energy involves producing electricity from sunlight. This can be done using solar thermal devices. Thermoelectric converters, solar ponds and solar chimneys are also being used for this conversion. The design to extract energy from the sun is based on photosynthesis. Plants convert solar energy into chemical energy. This chemical energy is used to prepare food.
Solar energy is being harnessed to be utilized in agriculture. Farmers aim to optimize sunlight in a way that helps in plant growth and sustenance. If growing plants get maximum sunlight, the result will be fast ripened fruits. Greenhouse gases use solar energy to help provide heat to plants that cannot be otherwise locally grown.
In houses, sun’s heat can be trapped in solar cookers and solar heaters. This will help minimize use of gas for cooking and also save on electricity required to warm water. A very interesting concept is that of the solar air conditioning. This design works on eliminating unwanted heat from a house/building and by reducing the rate at which heat is absorbed into the building.
Wind Energy System
Wind energy is also a renewable form of energy. It is available in plenty and at no cost. Wind can be converted into electricity using wind turbines. This electricity can be supplied to various industries and even to houses. So far, only on per cent of wind energy is utilized for this purpose. However, experiments are on for easy and maximum harnessing of energy from this natural resource.
It is easily available, plentiful and has no harmful effects. In fact its use can help decrease green house gases emission. But wind energy hasn’t emerged as a very popular concept. This is mainly because wind turbines operate well in places where wind speed is maximum. Also, the amount of electricity generated by one farm of wind turbines is not enough to meet the supplies. For this large farms need to be created. Availability of land is a big question in this case.
But scientists are working on producing better turbine models. Especially since wind is too precious a natural resource of energy. Besides, its conversion and maintenance is not very expensive.
