However, today since alternative energy is a fairly new concept, there are more disadvantages to it rather than advantages. Alternative fuel vehicles like hybrid cars sound very good in concept. However, they are not practical to use as they prove to be much more expensive. The consumer in the end has to make a lot of sacrifices and forgo several things that a normal fuel based car can offer them. It does affect the business and running costs over a period of time.
Some of the alternative fuels available today are biodiesel, propane, hydrogen, natural gas and electricity. These sources are not easily available, and they are not widely spread. A person who runs such an alternative fuel vehicle has to go to specific gas stations in order to fuel it. In addition, the vehicle is totally not fit for long distance travel. Also, alternative fuel is available at premium costs, which do not suit most people’s budget.
Disposing cars and vehicles made on alternative fuel technology is very expensive and not practical. Also, the infrastructure needed for production of such vehicles is very expensive. It results in high prices of the vehicles. Everything from car batteries to fuel for running the vehicle costs a lot. When it comes to spare parts replacement, they bring on heavy price tags.
